Target Audience:
The activity is designed for all health care professionals involved in diabetes research or the delivery of diabetes care and services. This includes physicians, doctors of osteopathy, international physicians, physician assistants, nurses, dietitians, certified diabetes educators and other health care professionals.
Learning Objectives:
• Review the importance of the Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor in the pancreatic beta-cell and elsewhere, with focus on the research forming the basis of a novel compound class in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and potentially also obesity.
• Summarize how once-daily human GLP-1 analogs were designed rationally.
• Discuss the discovery of non-peptidic ago-allosteric modulators for the GLP-1 receptor.
