Continuing Medical Education (CME) Information
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The benefits of insulin in delaying or even preventing diabetes progression are becoming increasingly recognized, and forthcoming noninvasive formulations of insulin will make it a more acceptable option for diabetes management early in the disease. The incretin therapies may also have the potential of improving pancreatic function and delaying diabetes progression. This is a webcast of a satellite symposium, which was moderated in a “town hall” format, providing a platform for investigators of noninvasive insulin formulations and incretin therapies to discuss the merits of these emerging approaches to the management of diabetes. Audience participation was facilitated through the use of question cards the moderator requested from participants at the beginning of the program; these and other predetermined questions were used as the basis for a discussion of the data.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After participating in this activity, the participants should be better able to
- Describe emerging approaches for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes
- Discuss the benefits of incretin therapies in diabetes management
- Assess the potential of insulin as an early and long-term therapy for diabetes
- Develop individualized strategies for reducing A1C values while minimizing hypoglycemia and weight gain
TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, diabetes educators, and other healthcare professionals who desire information on practical strategies for sustaining glycemic control with novel therapies will find this webcast useful.
