2011 CME Support Statements
This one-day conference is designed to inform academic urologists involved in the development and implementation of urology residency programs. The conference should be of special interest to those physicians involved in the education, supervision and evaluation of urology residents.
The goal of this meeting is to discuss the current situation of urology manpower in the United States with specific emphasis on academic training programs. It will also inform attendees on innovative ways to fill gaps in academic physicians. It will also update the members on the current strategies to improve physician manpower, specifically in urology. The program will also introduce methods of evaluating resident competency through surgical skills labs, in an organized evaluation program in the operating room and discuss what is happening on a national level with organized educational sites being developed under the American College of Surgeons.
Identify the reason why manpower in urology is short in academic programs.
Identify possible ways to improve academic training faculty with physician extenders.
Apply new methods of determining resident competency and understand the coordinated program being developed by the American College of Surgeons for specialty training centers.
