COURSE DESCRIPTION

This two-day activity has been planned for the providers of care to patients with rheumatic diseases. Given the variety of existing rheumatologic disorders as well as the numerous available diagnostic procedures and treatment options, it is necessary to provide clinicians with information about strategies for the early diagnosis of rheumatologic disorders, novel state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and opportunities to utilize the most effective treatments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

This activity is intended for rheumatologists, internists, family practitioners and other allied health professionals.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Following this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • discuss and understand recent advances in the use of both non-biologic and biologic agents in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
  • understand the potential cardiovascular risks associated with both traditional NSAIDS and the COX-2 inhibitors
  • appreciate how new imaging modalities including MRI aid in the diagnosis and in the management of the rheumatic diseases
  • learn how to manage the rheumatic diseases during pregnancy
