ESU Course 27: Advanced course on laparoscopic cystectomy
Chair: P. Rischmann, Toulouse Cedex 4 (FR)

Aims and objectives: Laparoscopic cystectomy is a complex procedure that has to be performed by trained urologists. We will first address some particular points regarding the indication of a laparoscopic technique in situations such as invasive bladder cancer and neurogenic bladder. Then we will describe the main anatomical landmarks allowing a reproducible step-by-step laparoscopic approach. Moving to surgical technique, we will emphasise some specific points such as ports placement, timing and extent of lymphadenectomy, nerve-sparing radical cystectomy in male, uterus-sparing cystectomy, bowel work and reconstruction, through an exclusive or combined laparoscopic approach. It will be extensively illustrated by many videos that will permit interaction with the audience. We will discuss post-operative aspects and present the oncological and functional results of those procedures in the hands of the faculty and further review the literature. The objective of this course is to give the participants the means for self-evaluating their abilities to move safely, alone or under supervision, to a laparoscopic approach for cystectomy.
