| Aims and objectives: As in the last few years, again in Berlin we had a full and very interactive course on the diagnosis and management of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). In particular, the presentation of cases on each subject gave rise to a lot of discussion and interaction. The course has again been updated, with some new topics and results from recent (EORTC) manuscripts. The aim is to discuss several problems in more detail, in light of the EAU guidelines, rather then giving an overview of everything that has been published. After all presentations, some cases will be discussed in an interactive way. In the first presentation Prof. Fred Witjes from Nijmegen will discuss the diagnosis of NMIBC, including the expanding field of urinary markers and the use of fluorescence cystoscopy. The second lecture will be given by Dr. Marko Babjuk from Prague, in which he will discuss the optimal initial therapy in NMIBC. This will include the transurethral resection (TUR) technique, biopsy policy (where, when and how), blue light resection, one immediate instillation and when to give additional insitllations. Thirdly, Dr. Palou from Barcelona will discuss high risk NMIBC, including CIS, and what we should do with those patients. After a short break Dr. Marko Babjuk will discuss what the option are in patients failing BCG, an important problem. In the fifth lecture and case discussion Prof. Witjes will give an overview on new intravesical drugs and new treatment modalities (hyperthermia). Finally, Dr. Palou will discuss TCC outside the bladder, a topic that has been asked to be discussed for several years, and is added for the first time. After the course, attendees should have clear practical guidelines for some common daily practical problems in patients with NMIBC. |
