The History Forum is an annual 4-hour session presenting a number of papers to disseminate historical information regarding the development of urology including the history of instruments, the development of major surgical and medical advances in the treatment of urologic diseases, and biographical information on significant individuals in the field of urology.
These presentations by international participants are followed by a brief discussion.
Major Goals of this History Forum:
- Discuss the state of the art in the past in order to understand how proposals to improve the field of medicine succeeded or failed.
- Show where and how errors have been made to avoid similar issues in clinical practice and in the development of the field.
- Demonstrate the importance of perseverance toward a goal in the face of obstacles and/or ridicule to achieve a worthwhile advance in Medicine.
Objectives:
- Attendees will have a better understanding of the history of the specialty.
- Attendees will be able to use the history of medical treatment to better explain modern treatment to their patients.
- Attendees will realize the importance of preservation of urological texts and instruments for the future.
