Integrated Physiology or Obesity
Fat But Not Sick: A Protective Role for DGAT in The Adipose Tissue
Presented by: Suneil Koliwad, MD, PhD

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Over the past several years, there has been an increasing awareness of the interrelationship between insulin resistance, obesity, and lipid disorders, such as hypertriglyceridemia. Numerous studies have shown that when obese patients loose weight, the severity of the insulin resistance sometimes dramatically decreases. This program will evaluate the relationship between triglyceride biosynthesis, insulin resistance, and obesity.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity was developed specifically for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists who treat patients with diabetes, as well as all certified diabetes educators.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After viewing this presentation, users should be able to:

  • Discuss the pathogenesis associated with insulin resistance and obesity
  • Discuss the effects of DGAT on improving insulin resistance.
